Easter Sunday dawned bright and beautiful. I wore my new sun dress (New Look 665) with a pretty eyelet shawl (McCalls 3880).

Before church, Brendan took me to our park for some pretty photographs.

The lace around my hem is the same lace on the shawl.
Brendan looked very handsome.

Love,
Tiff

Yesterday, a friend from church called me and asked if I fished. I told him, “Well, I like to, but I haven’t in a long time”. “Well,” he says, “do you want to go with me tomorrow?” Needless to say, I accepted and spent yesterday evening getting myself ready…filled up the car, got my hunting/fishing license, gathered some snacks, etc.

I woke up this morning at 6:15 and quickly got myself in the car and over to Archie’s house to help him get the boat hooked up to his truck and get the bait and tackle prepped. He lives less than 5 minutes from the boat ramp he uses, so we were in the water by 7:15am and had the rods out by 7:30.

Starboard side trolling gear

The bulk of our activity happened from then til about 10:00am. We caught nearly 40 fish in the first two hours we were out there, just slowly trolling along at a GPS-indicated 9/10ths of a mile per hour Then once the sun came out and it started warming up, the fish quit biting. So we tried a new spot about 15 minutes (by boat) away. We caught a few more there, but ultimately chalked it up to a kinda slow day. Totalled 57 fish caught, ~35-40 were crappie (what we were going for), and of those, only 8 were over the minimum length to keep. But we did keep those 8

Crappie on ice

After we got back to the launch ramp about 1pm, we loaded up the boat, went back to the house, and filleted the fish for dinner. I brought them home and we fried them up as Archie said we should flour, egg, cornmeal, and whatever spices we wanted, then fried in oil. Delicious Tiff took some pictures of them…. I’ll add those to the post sometime soon.

*Fried fish, yummy!

Brendan and I went to our church’s (West Hills Presbyterian Church of America) Festival of Carols last night. Our sanctuary choir performed with the Knoxville orchestra. The music was beautiful! The program consisted of “O Come, All Ye Faithful”, selections from Handel’s Messiah, “Joy to the World”, “The Angels Rejoice”, “Away in a Manger,” “Mary, Did you Know?”, “The Lord’s Prayer”, and many others.

I adore Christmas songs and listening to them with an orchestra was even more amazing. I kept my eyes closed and let the music wash over me as I reflected on the reason for the season. It was so special to hear such beautiful hymns and share them with my husband and church family.

When we got home, Brendan and I snacked on sugar cookies and drank hot chocolate.

What a lovely way to wrap up the weekend.

We joined West Hills Presbyterian Church here in Knoxville, TN in September. When we originally found this church, I ran across their web site and gathered there was no one at the church who had any web development experience at all. It was a sad 4 or 5 page static site with no contact form, a painfully “premade” looking template, and was just overall a horrible experience. Now, I’m no graphic designer, but I figured I could do a little bit better at least and so here is the new site : http://www.whpca.net. Nothing mindblowing, and still mostly static, but at least it has a way for people to contact the church and for new visitors to easily get essential info and directions.

On a related topic, I LOVE Google’s APIs. Whether it’s doing AJAX searches, integrating interactive maps into a page, or taking advantage of the multitude of other tools they have created (or bought). If you do any kind of web development, you will surely be able to find a use for one or more of their tools….. Google API AJAX Playground. To see an example of how it’s used on this site, go to the directions page under Information.
