I’m ready for spring, so I sewed up a new bag.

There are three pleats on each side. The lining is the same green fabric as the handles. There’s also an inner pocket. The handles are top-stitched with brown thread, and when I sewed them to the bag, I put pink thread in the bobbin to disguise their attachment to the band.

I would prefer to have larger, dark wood buttons, but the brass ones still look nice.

I reclaimed a zipper to make a small pouch for my lotion/mirror/handkerchief/etc. The lining is the same green as the lining and handles on the bag.

The brown and green fabric came from Hobby Lobby, the pink fabric is from Portage Quilt House, and the buttons came from Wal-Mart. Simplicity 2685 is the same pattern I used for my mushroom bag.

I love it! Now, I just need the snow to melt . . .

The pants are a simple drawstring, pale yellow, and oh-so comfy! I’ll have to make a matching top (I have plenty of fabric left).

Back in Tennessee, on my last visit to Jo-Ann’s (wipes away tear), I purchased the blue cupcake fabric. I had no plans for it, but I can never resist cupcakes. I thought I would never see the fabric on a bolt again as there aren’t any Jo-Ann’s within HOURS of my new home. Well, imagine my surprise when I saw the cupcake collection at our local Wal-Mart! I’m sure I startled Brendan with my shocked squeal in the fabric section of Wal-Mart. I promptly picked up each bolt (and may have hugged them a little) and made a purchase.

I’ll have to make something for my orange kitchen as Katie suggested (she was with me at the last visit to Jo-Ann’s when I purchased the blue fabric).

Love,

Tiff

P.S. Yes, I’ll wait until after I finish my previously mentioned sewing projects.

I think instead of a “Christmas” quilt, it will be a winter quilt since nothing is overtly Christmas.
It’s a Simplicity pattern (3752) I bought back in Tennessee. I decided I needed a new apron to match my orange kitchen. I’ve also decided to keep the cupcake kitchen theme, but I have to change my color schemes for this rental. Green and brown seems to be the ticket to complement the energetic orange. And would you believe it, but there is cupcake fabric with orange in it?! Providential!

I love Simplicity patterns!

The absolutely darling brown cupcake material was purchased from Portage Quilt House, my favorite store here in the U.P. I was able to avoid going there for a week! (I knew I would love it too much and tried to put off the stress to my wallet), but resistance was futile seeing as to how I live less than a mile away and drive past it whenever I go into town…And I have a fabric addiction, but I digress. The shop is so lovely in its setup and there are bolts and fat quarters everywhere! I didn’t see a single scrap of fabric that I didn’t want to take home with me. (Jeanette, there is also a super fluffy cat that hangs out in the shop whom you would love.) I’m definitely going to be a regular, as long as Brendan doesn’t confiscate my debit card or anything…

adorable cupcake fabric--with sprinkles!

The green material and the brown for the waistband and ties are from Wal-Mart (here in the U.P.). I love the brown fabric as it reminds me of seventies kitchen linoleum: so appropriate for my orange kitchen, wouldn’t you say?

brown and green fabric

With some of the cupcake scraps I embellished two kitchen towels (they look like washcloths to me, Wal-Mart, but oh well, I got nine of them for $3).

cupcake towels

Well, I’m off to another sewing project. I hope you, too, are celebrating September in sewing style!

Love,

Tiff

Since I finished the quilt for our bed, I’ve needed to change the drapes. I thought it would be more cost effective to purchase pre-made ones, but when I saw this bold graphic black and gray fabric at Wal-Mart for $1.50 a yard, I had to have it.

I went for drama with floor-to-ceiling simple panels (my favorite kind of window treatments–I’ve never been a fan of fancy drapes–strange, I know, when you consider my collection of accessories…).

Now I need some cool iron tie-backs.

They are lined with blackout fabric (50% off at Jo-Ann’s last week), which really keeps it dark in our room. This also makes the panels extremely heavy; we will need a new curtain rod (see how it bows?).

Don’t they look good? As I look at them, I keep thinking I need to make a quilt in black and grays for our bed…

Love,

Tiff

P.S. I have a little bit of fabric left over for throw pillows for the bed…or a new quilt.

I am going to make a quilt for Jeanette. I decided to make it a Little Red Riding Hood inspired quilt.

Here’s the anchor fabric.

Little Red Riding Hood quilt panel*

Here are the coordinating fabrics.

fun!

Jeanette once had me edit a paper she wrote about the story of Little Red Riding Hood, and I remember that she dressed as Little Red for at least two Halloweens. Therefore, I thought this theme would be appropriate and appreciated.

This forest fabric is from the same collection as the panel above:

Little Red's forest*

Forest creatures.

More forest creatures.

so cute+

Owls.

I love the trees and shamrocks+

more flowers for grandmother^

forest foliage+

Little Red's basket`

red gingham`

I tried to use as much green as possible since Jeanette suggested a green and brown quilt. The little forest creatures are adorable, and I hope they will be accented well with the flowers, leaves, basket, and gingham prints.

I plan on doing a simple disappearing nine-patch quilt top in order to complement the anchor fabric and keep those squares whole:

Little Red

Bad wolf!

I like the cartoon-ish quality of my prints. I think it makes the dark story a little lighthearted and cute.

It will take me a while to start/do this project since I still need to finish Brendan’s quilt and I want to take a break from quilting to work on sewing clothes. However, this fabric is too cute not to work with; so don’t worry, Nette, I’ll get it done!

Love,

Tiff

The fabric is from Jo-Ann’s`, Wal-Mart^, The Fat Quarter Shop*, and Bug Fabric+.
