Homemade Christmas: Stockings

Brendan and I had large stockings that I made for our first Christmas together that were definitely sewn while I was a novice (i.e. they aren’t lined and not very nice looking). I’ve wanted to sew some new ones for a while, and Brendan and I wanted to go with smaller stockings since we usually fill our stockings with candy and we don’t need sacks full of candy. So I drafted a pattern and sewed these:

I love them! The gingerbread house one is mine and Brendan has the cute dog. They are so cute and perfect for small gifts.

The gingerbread and red fabric came from Wal-Mart and the polkadot print and dog came from Material Girl in Crystal Lake, one of my local quilt shops.

Happy Father’s Day!

I did some sewing for my dear Dad Knapp. He likes to sit in his easy chair with a large Coke and watch sports. Therefore, I sewed up a set of coasters that feature four popular athletic balls (football, soccer, baseball, and basketball) on one side and gray with scarlet “writing” on the other. The scarlet and gray coordinate with the living room and, more importantly, they are the colors for Ohio State University.

Peacock Bag

I loved Jeanette’s Little Red bag and decided to make one for myself.

BAM!

How beautiful is that?! The gray and peacock material came from Hancock Fabrics in Crystal Lake. The peacock print was even on clearance. Woohoo!

Why yes, that is a pocket knife next to my ChapStick.

Lee Love

I made Angry Birds for Lee for Christmas along with a promise to make more of the characters. Unfortunately, I hadn’t been able to locate the proper shades of green fleece for the pigs. Darling Mom Sullivan to the rescue! She sent me some green fleece and matching threads. Here are the results:

Pajama Pants

While out shopping at Wal-Mart, I saw a queen sized 200 thread-count flat sheet on sale for $5. Score! That’s a nice piece of yardage. I figured it would make a great quilt backing (I’ve used flat sheets for three quilts so far).

However, once I got it home, I decided to make pajama pants.

The pants are a simple drawstring, pale yellow, and oh-so comfy! I’ll have to make a matching top (I have plenty of fabric left).

Latest Quilt Top

I had the day off yesterday and spent it sewing! Here is the result of glorious, uninterrupted sewing time:

Can you tell that there are Asian lanterns? I was inspired by the Happy Zombie’s pattern. I still need to embroider “lantern” loops and tassels. Maybe the lantern design will be easier to identify that way. I used the Japanese fabric that Kristin sent to me.

This quilt is for the Bowmans when they return from Japan! So, Jeremy and Kristin, pick a date for returning to the states so I know when I need to finish this bad boy. ; )

Butterfly Block

New Quilt Blocks

I have another project joining the ranks in my little sewing corner. I finally cut my Japanese fabric! It was scary to cut into such precious prints, but fabric was meant to be sewn, not just hoarded. I have started to assemble some blocks for another quilt.

Brendan and I are really cutting back on our spending, so for now, all of my sewing has been with yardage in my stash. It’s been fun “rediscovering” some of my prints, and it’s been stretching my creativity to limit myself to the materials on hand. Unfortunately, that means that this current project is going to be shelved again until I do have some more spending money so that I can get some black fabric and some more white to finish this quilt top.

Oh well, it’s off to my sewing nook to find some other treasures just waiting to be cut up and sewn into something special in the meantime!
