I had the day off yesterday and spent it sewing! Here is the result of glorious, uninterrupted sewing time:

Butterfly Block
More playing in the sewing room with my fabric stash. I just wanted to try out some more foundation piecing from my Quilter’s Ark book.

I still need to embroider some legs and antennae. The pretty blue fabrics are from my friend Misty in TN.

New Quilt Blocks
I have another project joining the ranks in my little sewing corner. I finally cut my Japanese fabric! It was scary to cut into such precious prints, but fabric was meant to be sewn, not just hoarded. I have started to assemble some blocks for another quilt.

Brendan and I are really cutting back on our spending, so for now, all of my sewing has been with yardage in my stash. It’s been fun “rediscovering” some of my prints, and it’s been stretching my creativity to limit myself to the materials on hand. Unfortunately, that means that this current project is going to be shelved again until I do have some more spending money so that I can get some black fabric and some more white to finish this quilt top.
Oh well, it’s off to my sewing nook to find some other treasures just waiting to be cut up and sewn into something special in the meantime!

Handmade Christmas
After last Christmas, I decided that I wanted to try to sew as many Christmas presents as possible. I still think I have room for progress, but this year I did complete two winter quilts, one for each of our families.

I had meant to make a third for us so that we would all have matching quilts and be able to think of each other whenever we cuddled under them. Alas, I only had enough fabric for two. Darn–now I have to buy more fabric for our quilt.
Actually, I’m not sure if I’ll have time for that. I have several other sewing projects that are clamoring for my attention…

Winter Quilt Two
I am going to do a very simple pattern for my winter quilt. I think some of the prints are too pretty to cut into small pieces.
cut strips: I'm ready to piece!
The cardinal and winter scene fabric is cut into large rectangles. I then cut strips from the other fabrics. These strips will be sewn together in rows of three and then cut to match the size of the large rectangles. At least, that’s the plan thus far… With all of the snow flurries and colder weather, I am anxious to have my winter quilt for snuggling and retiring my Woodland Creatures until next fall.

I’m actually quilting it!
turquoise stitches around the towers and on a few of the swirls in the print of the turret
I free motion quilted around the castle in gray, and I am now doing some hand quilting on the castle—with turquoise thread!

Winter Quilt
Back in Tennessee, I bought some holiday fabric from Hobby Lobby. I finally found some coordinating cotton here in the UP to start a quilt. The blue, cream, and brown is from Wal-Mart. The winter scene, cardinals, snowflakes, and pine-cones came from Hobby Lobby.

I think instead of a “Christmas” quilt, it will be a winter quilt since nothing is overtly Christmas. That way I can use it for the entirety of the UP’s long winter season.

Woodland Creatures Quilt
Yes, I am still working on that quilt.
I’ve finished quilting and binding it, but now I’m working on the appliqués.

I only have fifty to do…maybe I’ll be done in time for next autumn…
