Huzzah!

I’ve named the quilt “A Walk in the Park.” It has such soothing colors, and the tones of many of the prints remind me of nature: specifically when I’m walking in the Smoky Mountain National Park.

It’s dimensions are 100″x108″. The length is longer than the width. It has kept us perfectly warm with the cooler weather we had this weekend.

Now I just need to make some curtains to match our bed’s new look!

P.S. The Shabby Chic quilt will now become our picnic blanket, I suppose. The blanket that we were using and kept in my vehicle is too small for both of us to comfortably stretch out when we picnic in the park.

I think I need to add a strip of “sky” across the top, and I plan on getting a solid blue to use for the sky. I think the sails don’t stand out as much as I’d like them to against that “net” print.

new skirt

When Jo-Ann’s had McCall’s patterns on sale for $0.99, I purchased several. This particular pattern was supposed to take one hour. I think I want my money back for false advertising. It took me about three or four hours to complete, not counting the time it took to mend my own errors. I really like it though and got several compliments on it. I’m sure I’ll use the patten again. Maybe next time will only take me sixty minutes.

The fabric is a pretty purple print that I bought on clearance at Jo-Ann’s a month or so ago.

I have enough material left over for a smaller project. Perhaps I’ll make an apron. I can never have too many of those.

Can you see the pattern?

Jo-Ann’s had quilt batting on sale at 40% regular price, so I bought some Friday. However, I still need to choose backing (we are thinking a solid gray) and I think I might try to make my own binding as well (we are considering black). I’ll probably wait on those things until next payday. Perhaps by the end of May or sometime in June I’ll be all finished.

I had to try out the quilt top on the bed to make sure it looked beautiful with our paint.

The adorable fabric came from Jo-Ann’s.

The pattern is Simplicity 2685. There are two pockets that are utilized between the shell and the lining. One pocket is indicated in the pattern, and the other pocket was added by yours truly.

I chose to make the band and handles contrast, unlike the pattern directions. That brown polka dot fabric is also the lining of the bag. The big wooden button came from Wal-Mart and was picked out by Brendan. He really has a good eye and I’m often thankful for his help/suggestions.
