Horseback Riding

For my birthday, Mom, Dad, and Jeanette took me horseback riding in Hocking Hills.

I was on Tabasco, Jeanette on Storm, Mom on Lady, and Dad had a retired racehorse named Cherokee.

The day was gorgeous and I had a lot of fun.

Travel Bag

I made a trip to Ohio this past weekend to see my beautiful Mom for Mother’s Day. Mom and Dad generously flew me out to Columbus, which was a perfect opportunity to sew a travel bag using this tutorial I found online.

I found these beautiful coordinating fabrics at Jo-Ann’s. I absolutely love the gray and it is complements beautifully by the berry and pink. This was my first attempt at using piping. I don’t have a piping foot, but my zipper foot seemed to work fairly well. I did adjust the pattern slightly by adding pockets to the side. It was the perfect place to quickly store my boarding pass and cell phone at the airport.

My awesome wooden handles were on clearance for $0.97! I bought out the stock just in case I want to make more bags.

The lining had pockets that were perfect for my books and journal.

I also added a key fob which held my sunglasses nicely since I decided to leave my keys at home for this trip.

All in all, this bag was awesome for my trip. I love it and can’t wait to use it again!

Another Envelope Pillow Cover

I used some French General fabric to make a coordinating pillow cover.

The alphabet panel came from Fat Quarter Shop and the border fabric is from Material Girl. I love the black swirls; they remind me of all of my wrought iron decor.

I quilted square outlines around the alphabet square.

I think they look so cute together!

Kitchen cut-out

For my birthday, Brendan installed some wrought-iron brackets to the cut-out between our kitchen and dining room.

I love the fleur de lis!

I wanted something to dress up the space with our high ceilings and something for my vine since it will soon takeover. I love this “treatment”.

Birthday Bags

Like at Christmas, I decided to sew some bags for my birthday gifts to save Brendan from wrapping them. I used fabric that was already in my stash, too, so it was totally “green”.

There are neon green cupcake printed bags with purple cherry printed trim, desserts with pink/purple tops, and a little bag with puppies and a brown trim (brown fabric used on my pillow).

My 28th Birthday

I had a great birthday today! The ladies at the bank really spoiled me.

Everyone brought in food. We had a veggie platter, taco dip, pound cake, fruit and caramel dip, and chocolate-covered strawberries.

Victoria gave me the cute balloons and new water cup.

Jessica created a beautiful card that all the ladies signed.

The beautiful flowers are from Mom Sullivan.

Envelope Pillow Cover

I bought a 16″ square pillow form a while back and finally made a cover for it.

The fabrics are Moda from Material Girl. It is some sort of French blueprints. I just love how it looks in my gray living room with the linen curtains.

Kitchen

I don’t think I’ve ever posted about our kitchen. It is still a work in progress, but here it is!

Dad and Brendan replaced the chrome faucet fixtures with this beautiful Moen set from Home Depot.

While I don’t love washing dishes, I do love the cut out.

By the way, isn’t my plant doing really well?

April 2011 (when we moved in)

The linen curtains were sewn by me using ten yards of linen from Jo-Ann’s

and a heavy home decorator weight fabric from Wal-Mart. We love them. They provide privacy, but still let in a lot of light.

Our fancy hardware came from Bed, Bath, & Beyond at 50% off. There is a second rod that could hold sheers or blackout fabric is we wanted. For right now, we are content with just the one layer of protection.

We still want to get stools for the island, a working dishwasher, brushed nickel outlet plates, and some extra lighting over the range. I have so much space–almost too much! It is very easy for papers and other things to accumulate on the counters.

I’ll try to get better about updating our little baby steps of making our house our home.
