Winter Wreath

I decorated a new grapevine wreath for our front door.

I used red berries, a chipper Cardinal, and some printed ribbon with floral wire and my trusty glue-gun. Cinnamon scented pinecones were daubed with vanilla paint to look like snow. I purchased everything from Michael’s. I can’t wait to do something to my stair rails, too.

Craft Fair

Mom Sullivan and I attended a craft show. We didn’t see too many things that interested us, but I did come home with a few items.

A basket for the stairs. I’ve wanted one of these for a while now as I usually just set things on the steps to remind me to take them upstairs. Now it will maybe look neater and the items will stay contained.

A little Christmas scottie dog. It’s kind of too big for an ornament, but it does have a hanging loop. Hmm.

Two wooden snowflake ornaments. I plan on replacing the gold wire with some ribbon.

And finally, a little mermaid. Don’t ask. I don’t know. I just HAD to have it.

Happy Fall, Y’all!

Our front porch was looking a little sad, especially after our neighbor put out fall flowers, a wreath, and even a scarecrow. After decorating the bank for fall, I was definitely in the mood to make my home festive, too. Thankfully Hobby Lobby and Michael’s had their fall decor items on sale.

I purchased the little pumpkins at Hobby Lobby along with a garland of fall leaves that I cut up for the wreath. The mums are from Mom Sullivan purchased through Lee’s school. And everything else is from Michael’s.

I embellished the grapevine wreath with my trusty glue gun, fall leaves, miniature gourds, and some wired ribbon. I’m pretty pleased with the results. (Mom, you will have to show me how to make a wire-ribbon bow; yours are the best!)

Now I just wish I used the front door so I could enjoy my efforts more.

P.S. My faux pumpkins aren’t obviously fake looking, are they? I just really liked the idea of being able to reuse them every year since I have no real interest in carving the real ones or dealing with getting rid of them at the end of the season.

4th of July Bunting

Bunting is all over the sewing/crafting blog-world, and I’ve always liked it, I just didn’t know how I wanted to incorporate it in my house. I LOVE seasonal fabric, but never know what to do with it. Duh! How about seasonal bunting for all of my decorating needs?!

I bought the amazing patriotic typography print at Jo-Ann’s along with the solid navy fabric. The fourth of July stuff was 40% off!

Since this was a quick and simple project, I just purchased the binding at Wal-Mart. I cut out the triangles while watching Mel Gibson’s The Patriot, and even sang some Americana songs while I sewed (yes, I’m a nerd).

Since the printed fabric was directional, I ended up with all these upside down triangles that I didn’t want to use in my bunting. I was thus inspired to do a tablerunner that currently sits on my kitchen island.

The lovely star fabric for the binding came from Wal-Mart and I also used it for the back.

I’m ready for a barbecue and some sparklers!

Happy Father’s Day!

I did some sewing for my dear Dad Knapp. He likes to sit in his easy chair with a large Coke and watch sports. Therefore, I sewed up a set of coasters that feature four popular athletic balls (football, soccer, baseball, and basketball) on one side and gray with scarlet “writing” on the other. The scarlet and gray coordinate with the living room and, more importantly, they are the colors for Ohio State University.

Peacock Bag

I loved Jeanette’s Little Red bag and decided to make one for myself.

How beautiful is that?! The gray and peacock material came from Hancock Fabrics in Crystal Lake. The peacock print was even on clearance. Woohoo!

Why yes, that is a pocket knife next to my ChapStick.

I absolutely love it.

He is risen!

To celebrate Easter, I sewed up some massive Peeps (pattern courtesy of Dandelions and Lace). Aren’t they cute?

I put them on our table to decorate for the holiday

..along with some clearance ceramic eggs from Michael’s.

Brendan’s Nightstand

His little drawer needed a liner. It had some nasty contact paper in it that left a sticky residue when I pulled it out.

So I searched my stash for some Brendan-ish fabric.

I measured the drawer, cut some fabric, did some stitching, and voilà! An attractive drawer liner.

Lee Love

I made Angry Birds for Lee for Christmas along with a promise to make more of the characters. Unfortunately, I hadn’t been able to locate the proper shades of green fleece for the pigs. Darling Mom Sullivan to the rescue! She sent me some green fleece and matching threads. Here are the results:

New Nightgown

This weekend I sewed a nightgown.

I used McCAll’s 5248 pattern, which I got for $.99, the pink fabric came from Wal-Mart (I got a whole bolt for $3), and the ribbon cost $.99 at Wal-Mart as well! Woohoo for thrifty sewing!
